[教養小説]
主人公が様々な体験を通して内面的に成長していく過程を描く小説。ドイツ語のBildungsromanの訳語。
ドイツの哲学者ヴィルヘルム・ディルタイが、ゲーテの「ヴィルヘルム・マイスターの修行時代 (1796)」とそれに連なる類似した形式の作品群に対して「教養小説」の語を頻繁に用いこの語を有名にした。
