ダブリンのある一日に起こった出来事を、様々な文体で意識の流れなどの実験的な手法を用いて描写した20世紀を代表する小説の一つ。

ジョイス曰く『One could recreate the city of Dublin, piece by piece, from Ulysses』(たとえダブリンが滅んでも、ユリシーズがあれば再現できる)
これは、この小説がダブリンの街を克明に記述しているためである。

According to Peter Mendelsund, the associate art director at Alfred A. Knopf Books and designer of this Ulysses cover, James Joyce had brought samples of cloth with him to the printer ― he had specific colors in mind for his covers. Mendelsund capitalized on that original idea for his design.
